AL25 A large Roman fawn terracotta oil lamp with Diana the huntress modelled on the discus, c. 2nd Century A.D. : £ 285

A large Roman red slipped fawn terracotta oil lamp with round nozzle and ring handle, Diana the huntress modelled on the discus, a repeated leaf pattern on the shoulder. Lamp measures 116 mm/4.6 ins. in length. The slip worn and mostly lost from the upper surface, some minor surface wear, but overall a nice example, c. 2nd Century A.D.
Previously in a UK academic collection and acquired between 1980 and 1985.

AL26 A Roman red slipped oil lamp with a bust of a woman modelled on the discus, c. 2nd Century A.D. : SOLD

A Roman red slipped oil lamp with round nozzle and ring handle, the bust of a woman looking left modelled on the discus, a repeated leaf pattern on the shoulder. Lamp measures 102 mm/4 ins. in length. The slip worn, particularly on the shoulder and handle, a maker's mark on the base, c. 2nd Century A.D.
Previously in a UK academic collection and acquired between 1980 and 1985.

AL27 A North African redware lamp, Tunisia, c. 5th Century A.D. : £ 125

A Roman North African redware lamp, a figure of ?Hercules wearing a cape moulded on the discus. Lamp measures 120 mm/4.7 ins. in length. The shoulder decorated with hearts, a quatrefoil design and circles in relief. The discus and shoulder design worn, the spout blackened by soot and some minor chips, but an inexpensive example, Tunisia, c. 5th Century A.D.

AL28 A fine Roman red slipped oil lamp with the mask of a youth on the discus, late 1st Century A.D. : £ 245

A Roman red slipped oil lamp with round slightly elongate nozzle and ring handle, a mask of a youth with a high onkos modelled on the discus, the shoulder plain. Lamp measures 110 mm/4.3 ins. in length. Some loss of slip on the handle and on part of the shoulder, but a very nice example with a crisp mask impression, Italy, late 1st Century A.D.
Previously in a UK academic collection and acquired between 1980 and 1985.

AL29 A finely-potted Roman red-slipped factory-style lamp, c. 1st-3rd Century A.D. : £ 175

A finely-potted Roman red-slipped factory-style lamp with a series of concentric circles moulded on the discus. Lamp measures 108 mm/4.25 ins. in length, and has a loop handle with an applied thumb-plate on the handle. Some wear to the slip, remains of soot deposits around the wick aperture, the handle reattached, and an unusual form, c. 1st - 3rd Century A.D.
Previously in a UK academic collection and acquired between 1980 and 1985.

AL30  A small Egyptian greyware lamp with a dolphin naturalistically modelled on the spout, c. 1st-2nd Century B.C. : £ 190

A small Egyptian greyware oil lamp with loop handle and elongated spout on which a dolphin is naturalistically modelled. Lamp measures 83 mm/3.3 ins. in length. Some soot deposits around the wick aperture, but a nice example in good condition, c. 1st - 2nd Century B.C.
Ex Moustaki Collection, exported from Egypt in 1949 under licence.
